Japanese Craft Book 1

Here I've been feeling a bit left out of the whole Japanese craft book frenzy, waiting for a trip to Seattle where I'll be able to check out some of these books in person.   Ha!  Looking through my bookshelves the other day I realized that I already have a few of these that I bought years ago (about 15 years ago, that is) at Tower Books in Seattle.  I would spend hours looking through craft books there until they kicked me out at closing time, midnight.

This one is Sashiko: Traditional Japanese Quilt Designs.  Have I ever actually used this book, or the other two, to make anything?  Of course not!  They're just so pretty to look at.  This one even includes several pithy patterns for the requisite bags.  But the best part?  The prices.  This one was only $11.95.  It's translated into English.  The publishing date was September 1989 and it's out of print so does that make it a vintage japanese craft book?  Or, does it just make me vintage?

ISBN# 0870407694   There.  Now I feel hip and cool,  just like the rest of you!  ;)

You ARE hip and cool, S, you just don't know it! I, too, have (and covet) some quilting books, which I have rarely used (thought, before "discovering" knitting that I would be a quilter, but it just isn't portable enough for me). but those japanese craft books - oh, yum. there is a japanese grocery/everything store here in town that i have not trusted myself to even mapquest, because I know that when faced with beautiful knitting or crafting books, i just can't say no.

mom is leaving today ;( we had such a fantastic time, but she is sooo ready to get back to montana and dad.

Well, my dear, I think it makes you vintage. But don't worry, there are lots of us out there who are even more vintage than you are!!

The blue is absolutely beautiful! It's so clean and fresh looking!

Love this technique!
There is a great sashiko kimono style jacket in a back issue of either Vogue Knitting or IK, can't remember but I will research it! It may take me a few days, though.

Damn, you are SO hip and cool, without the Japanese books. I might be going to Seattle for a quick trip this summer and have been thinking about what kind of fabric and books await me. Any thoughts? Not much....just a taste...maybe yarn, too. Those blues are lovely.
