Thank goodness for modern, fireproof hotels...

Uwajimayadragon

Seattledragon2Seattledragon1

...because Seattle is crawling with beautiful, fire-breathing dragons.   One morning, E and I stopped at Uwajimaya to see what a gooey-duck geoduck looks like out of the mud.  Unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock in the fish/meat department.  We did get to see many other kinds of fish, shellfish, crabs and lobsters, and even octopus legs there.  The man behind the counter joked with E, taking off his cap to show that his bald head looked just like an octopus' head.  We walked down the aisles with E frequently asking, "Mama, what's this?" and me responding often with, "Hmmm, I'm not sure."  I briefly browsed but resisted the craft books, walking away with only edamame, kim chee, wasabi peas, Botan rice candy, and our first ever Pocky sticks.  Yummy treats!

Then, we were off to the Aquarium for more fish viewing and even more dragons:  dragon fish, a relative of sea horses.

The fishy day was finished off with halibut and edamame for dinner.

Yum, Pocky sticks! I enjoyed those when I visited Japan many years ago. I love all the dragon photos, too!

Oh, my, I was almost afraid to scroll down for fear of seeing photos (exquisitely composed and arranged, of course) of a fiery inferno of a hotel. Whew.

I got some Pocky sticks this morning as a suprise at the end of a long treasure hunt for the kids.

Last spring, for my birthday, a friend of mine got me Pocky Sticks for Men. What makes a Pocky stick manly? You are supposed to first swizzle them in your beer before enjoying.

Have found you via kate at Stitching in the buff..

Love your projects...

Also love Seattle...the smells, the fish, the sights...

I laughed out loud at work when I saw the sign on the hotel! Reminds me of the old hotels when I waitressed at Rehoboth Beach...they always bragged about the strangest things! "Clean outdoor showers!" "Carpet!" You have to live at the beach to get the joke, then the second joke of the tourists that just didn't get it!

Lucky you hitting Uwajimaya. You're very strong to have resisted the oh-so-tempting bookstore!

i can't believe it was your first ever pocky experience... yum yum! what flavor?

My son picked out his university (Seattle U) a few years ago based on its proximity to Uwajimaya. We've shopped at Uwajimaya for a zillion years, even back when it was the little store up the block from the current one. Did you check out all the Japanese knitting and sewing books in the bookstore?
