Summer is a very busy...day?
Just some of the books picked up earlier in the spring at the local "Friends of the Library" book sale. These are almost all discarded library books and were part of what I stuffed into a very full grocery bag for $3, which included 3 or 4 of the Moomintroll books, as well. The illustrations in some of these books are fantastic. Some from Summer is a Very Busy Day, by M. Jean Craig and illustrated by Don Almquist. Copywrite 1967. Can that really be 40 years ago, just two years before I came along? I could of sworn I was just born yesterday.
Sorry about the quality of the pictures. I just couldn't plant myself in front of the scanner when I could be sitting outside in the warm, breezy shade instead.

They look very like the illustrations in Blueberries for Sal.

Books! I am pleased that you have a Friends of the Library sale too. I am a member (over 15 years) of our FOL and we have a sale each spring! Most of our books are donated by the general public. We sell children's books for 25 cents each, but on the Sunday, you can fill a grocery bag for $1.00. We made over $20,000 this year. All that money goes back into the libraries and also puts on a party and provides prizes for the summer reading programme in our local libraries - 2 large ones and 3 small!
Oh yes, you can tell R that I baked the muffins and I also added some grated lemon rind and freshly grated nutmeg. Both grated on a microplane - probably just like one that Dad has! We will have them for lunch with some cheese!
Yes, we do use cms. but I still work in inches - don't think the manufacturers of gingham are going to go metric! You will see meat and produce advertised at the kg price and then the pound price! It was not a popular change for the older generation!

Ah, why, oh why, don't they publish children's books like these anymore? Thank you for sharing _Summer Is A Busy Day_ with us. Lovely!

i love these old children's books with the black and white with spot color (although I guess this is really full color with some spot color pages.) (one of my favorites is the Harry series.)
I popped over hear after seeing your comment about the Children's Activity magazines. I have a bunch of Jack and Jill magazines from the 1940s that are similar to what you've described. They have fun projects and paperdolls and gorgeous illustrations.
