Chillin' With My Gnomies
Two more nisse or gnomes, or Yuletide Gnomes, as the pattern calls them. The purple one is the largest size and is for a good friend, knit with Nashua Handknits Julia in Coleus and Geranium. The grey one is the smallest size and is for us, knit with the naturally dyed Nashua Handknits Natural Focus Ecologie Wool in Logwood. Faces are both Jo Sharp DK Wool in unknow colorway and beards are Crystal Palace Tingle in Bark Tweed. My brother in NYC saw the one I gave my mom and would like one and my mom asked me to make one for my other brother's son and daughter. Maybe next holiday season.
More gnome patterns here on Ravelry, including one for Else's amigurumi gnome, and a link to the archived pattern for this knitted gnome I made a couple of years ago.
On the sewing front there is Chick Pea Sewing Studio's free pattern for her version of those Danish pixies, and, of course, Hillary's gnomes, pattern available here.
Just came across this picture recently of C when I first met him, living in a teepee in the mountains of Colorado:
Upon seeing this, E exclaimed, "Papa was a gnome living way out in the forest!" I married a gnome! The resemblance never occured to me, I swear. By the end of that winter, the snow had been dug away from around the teepee so many times that you actually slid down in through the door and climbed back up out. When we moved away, a week into April, there was still 15 feet of snow on the ground. C and his teepee-mates sold it "as is" telling the buyers they could dig it out whenever the snow melted. I, on the other hand, was roughing it living in a condo at the base of the ski mountain, with a pool, hot tub, sauna, and cable tv.
A couple of pics I couldn't resist stopping for just down the road about a quarter mile on Christmas Eve morning (don't miss the gnome sleeping on a stump under a blanket of snow down to the left behind the "tree"):
Speaking of chillin' with my gnomies, I'm itching for a shirt like this one. Too bad it's not 100% cotton. This one is so-so. This one only comes in babies' sizes. Angharad made some nice ones a year or so ago that I can't find now on her site. I'm thinking there might be some freezer paper stencilling in our near future.

I ahve the pattern for the yuletide gnome. I was part of the knitting gnome swap a while back and had "Gnorm" visit me and I took him on a tour of Seattle. I think I might have to make one soon. They really are adorable. I LOVE the amigurumi one you linked too and will definitely be getting some blue and red yarn to make some with. Those ones should be a breeze and practially instant project. Thanks for the link! Have you checked on etsy.com for gnome shirts? I think I saw some on there as well. It's worth a look :)

I seem to be unable to open up the link for the gnome pattern. I live in Italy and I would love to knit one! Do you think you could find the time to send me the pattern by email if it is not too big a problem for you? I would be VERY VERY grateful. Thanks a lot in advance. Have a wonderful end of Year and best wishes for 2008!

Those gnomes are so cute!! And that tent picture...wow.
I may be reading it wrong but it looks like that t-shirt does come in 100% cotton if you choose a solid color background and not a heathered color.

Thanks for the mention, the tee-shirt is under the November 2006 archive and I used a gocco machine to print them on American Apparel organic shirts. I love your gnomes! Happy New Year!

You DID marry a gnome! How neat! I can't even begin to imagine 15 feet of snow. In my neck of the woods, three feet is the most we've seen. Happy new year!

No wonder you fell in love with your husband! You loved gnomes even back then. That's so funny that your kids picked up on the similarity. I bet your husband got a kick out of that.
Those knitted gnomes are incredible! How long does it take you to make one? I'll put one on my ever growing "to-do...someday" list. Also, thanks for the links.
I'm glad it sounds like you are feeling better! :-)

He seriously lived outside!?!? Thank you so much for the snow pictures. I love them; I rarely get to have snow around here and I love it. But living outside IN it?? I'm pretty sure I don't love it that much!

What darling gnomes and who would have guessed that our Tingle would look so incredibly gnome beard like! What a great look.

it's quite romatic, but i think i'd rather "live it up" in the ski condo ;)
truth be told, i use to have a semi_C .....
that went south and i lost my snow and winters, ... but gained truth and solidity.

If you make my amigurumi gnome, please post a picture of it on the flickr group, http://www.flickr.com/groups/simply-a-gnome/. I'd love to see it there! Thanks!
