Tree was knit from the Whit's Knits Pine Tree Sachet pattern in Nashua Handknits Natural Focus Ecologie Wool in Logwood colorway, stuffed with organic wool mill end scraps and a little bean bag of polyfil pellets placed in the bottom.

Pics taken by the boys and myself during the twice weekly trips we made between Thanksgiving and Christmas to swimming lessons at the closest pool an hour south of us.  What was I thinking signing them up for lessons in the midst of winter, with weather conditions like this?  Pretty, anyways.  Still, it beats a couple of years ago when I drove them to lessons at the closest pool at that time over an hour away, north across the border in Canada.   Yes, we really used to have to leave the country for swim lessons.  We still do go up there to swim on occasion on the weekends in the winter.

We'll be making the same drive to the south at least once a week over the following few months for skiing.  At our request, our parents gifted us ski passes and ski lessons this year for Christmas presents.  Ulterior motive:  cutting back on the mountain of presents this year.  It sort of worked.  The pile was closer to the height of Mt. Rainier/ At least it was less than the usual Mt Everest found under the tree on Christmas morning.

What the heck, a few more:

I love reading your blog and admiring your photos. Living in Wyoming, I understand driving long distances just to do ordinary things. Your children are fortunate that you are willing to providing them with these opportunities under the circumstances.

Happy New Year, Siri!! I love all of these photos...and that soft tree looks perfectly suited to stay out in that forest!! Pretty, pretty...

Happy New Year! Beautiful pictures. I look forward to reading about your corner of the world in 2008.

Happy New Year and beautiful photos!

Wonderful photos!

I can relate---up until our holiday break, I was driving my kids to a school that was 45 minutes away, up in the mountains. The drive included spectacular scenery but the winter roads were sketchy many mornings. Still, the landscape was so beautiful----I'll miss that part of it.

I enjoy reading your blog, and I really enjoy your combination of pictures. Always beautiful.
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you, Siri! Hope the New Year brings you as much happiness as you give to so many others. You're so kind to share your life w/us out here in 'reader land' ~ and the pics are always breathtaking. Your blog is the absolute best!

Happy New Year! I've been reading your blog for a year now, and it is my absolute favorite. Other bloggers seem to get more attention for some reason, but you outshine them all. I love the beauty and simplicity in your life, the adventure, your skill with yarn and needles, your way of viewing the world, and how you live in it. Thank you for sharing with such grace and style. All the best to you and yours.

Happy new yaer!

And I do envy you all that snow...

I just found your blog recently and I am mesmerized....such beauty in your photographs and your creativiy....I find myself in awe. I'm like a little kid anticipating Christmas when I come to visit here to see if there is a new post lol. Thank you for sharing. Hope the New Year is a good one for you and your family. P.S. I too envy all that snow and forest...living in the desert of Las Vegas not much chance of any of the white stuff or green trees.

I'm so far behind on the blogs I'm just skimming, but I wanted to say I love all your photos and I hope you are all feeling better. Happy New Year!

What great photos, thanks for sharing! I can't get enough of your knit tree in the snow, Love it!
