Slippery slope.
Slipping back into the caffeine habit. After the stomach illnesses of Thanksgiving weekend that cleared my body of the need for caffeine, it was a couple of weeks before the first cup of green tea. Then, decaffeinated coffee, but only outside the house at a coffee shop. Then, an inch or so of caffeinated coffee added to that cup of decaf.
Then, one morning, while talking on the phone with a friend, without even a thought towards it, I found I'd absentmindedly brewed a single cup of caffeinated coffee for myself. What???? How did that happen?
One cup sufficed for the last week or so. This morning, it was two, followed by a cup of hot cocoa.
Uh oh.
The linen cloth, thrifted years ago, I seamed seamed and sewed a button edging to. It's been sitting almost unused for 8-9 years. Maybe it's time to quit hoarding and start taking stuff like this out and actually using them. It's just that they're a pain to clean when compared to wiping down a table. Look. I couldn't even bring myself to set my cup of coffee on it for fear of staining it.

The linen cloth is gorgeous. How beatiful those simple buttons are when sewed on with the soft blue thread. I say, use it & love it & set your coffee on it! I know, it is easier said than done. I often hoard things that are "too nice to use", but I am trying to change:)

Oh, dear. I suffer a caffeine addiction problem, too, and if I don't stay off it suffer migraines (from even a little withdrawal) to boot. Not fun. I am so sorry.

You should come by for some matcha, get that caffeine kick going strong. I can't even imagine what would happen if I got off caffeine.

That's me, too. I save things FOREVER to preserve them... from what they were meant to be used for! ;-)

Oh yes, use it! It is very lovely and you will have good feelings every time you use it!

I totally understand the caffeine addiction. I have tried decaf...but...alas...it's just not the same.

The buttons are so fabulous! What a great use for the huge collection of those extra buttons clothes come with. I save them forever, but never seem to choose them for my projects. This would be perfect though!

Oh yes, that slippery caffeine slope! I have been there many times. Now I am currently on only chocolate every once and awhile!
I love the linen cloth with the buttons added, very beautiful!

See? Now I would have the opposite impulse with your linens vs. the table! I suppose that is an original C table? Gorgeous!

It is gorgeous, but you are righ, not practical. You could always drape it over the end of your bed...
As for the caffeine, theoretically I am so against it. I know it's wrong. But it makes my day to be able to sit and have a good cup of coffee. Plus it just gets me through the 3 o'clock witching hour.

I think we all need to get our linens out of the closet and use, embelish, rework them . If they get a little stain and it won't come out with all our modern cleaning products then cut it up and use it for embroidery or other sewing projects. The vintage linens are so wonderful to embroider on.

I love your linen and buttons. simple and beautiful. I slipped back into coffee at a new job...a familiar old comfort.

You are brave enough to set the coffee directly on the goregous table. That would frighten me!

Ha! I'm waiting for my cup to brew as I peruse a few blogs. I like the colored thread you used to secure the buttons. Maybe you could use it for a bread cloth (I can't tell how large it is)? Or a hand towel in a bathroom?

It's hard not to consume lots of hot beverages in this weather. And most do end up containing caffeine. But hey, my only vice, although what was I thinking drinking that large mug of tea before yoga class this morning?

You create such beautiful, practical things.
If I have to defend my 'use it vote' it's because I believe the stains will turn into great stories ;-)

You're inspiring me to save my jars and sort my buttons out by color/size, etc. I LOVE that linen + button look. As always, your blog is inspirational to me.

It is the tiny stain and spills which add character :) I love the button edging you've added.

Too funny, I never sit my cup on a nice tablecloth or anything resembling fabric. I couldn't bare the shame if I left a ring. The translucent buttons are perfect for the linen.
The best placemats I have found are the cork ones sold at ikea. Perfect for kids and cool for me.

Good for you to use linen cloth it's beautiful and love the button embellishment. I really enjoy your blog, thanks.
