Seattle, June 2007: Day at "Camp"
We're in Seattle for a week. These are from our visit there in June of last year.
Planting and hoeing "the octopus' garden". Wading with Grandpa Ray. Digging for clams. And, now a tradition, using a clam shell for a spoon to eat our yogurt.
After much time online and on the phone checking red tide warnings and identifying clams to confirn that we had the right kinds of clams, I made a big pot of very so-so clam chowder that tasted rather too much like the beach and was a bit too gritty with sand. It was fun to try, anyways, but this time I think we'll let the clams on the beach be and opt instead for the yummy chowder at the deli of the Town and Country.

Yum. Clam 'chowda'. It reminds me of when we traveled to Maine one summer and had the best fried clams I've ever had (Bob's Clam Hut in Kettering) and then came home and tried to replicate it. Nope. Sometimes (stress sometimes) restaurant-cooking is better than home-cooking.
