I was trying to figure out when the Monkey bu hit me, and I think I can pinpoint it to early April because I know I was knitting on these when Shannon came out this way in mid April. She and her mom stopped in during my day at the gallery for a little knitting time together and, not surprisingly, she was also knitting a pair of Monkeys, her 7th or 8th pair, I think.
The funny thing is is that I "gave"/promised her mom a pair of socks last December as a Christmas present and when I had her choose yarn from my sock yarn stash she chose the Socks That Rock midweight in Sedona on the left. So, then when I picked the Monkey pattern to go along with the yarn and started poking around online for how people alter the pattern to knit them toe up, I thought, "Aha! Shannon knits all her socks toe up. I'll check her ravelry site. As it turns out, Shannon has knit up the same colorway in the same pattern, only hers have orange heels and ribbing (here on Flickr). See how different hers turned out? That's hand dyed yarn for you. Every pair is different, even when you're using the same colorway. Mine have some pretty wonky pooling going on. Given the choice, she still chose the Sedonas. Now mother and daughter have nearly matching socks.
The other pair is Socks That Rock as well but knit with one more pattern repeat on the leg, in lightweight Crazy Lace Agate, from way back when.
Enough monkeying around. Too much of a good thing is, well, you know, too much of a good thing.
